Pelham Manor FD New Gear & Bailout

In September 2011, the Pelham Manor Fire Department received new equipment for its career staff. After receiving a FEMA grant, the department worked with AAA Emergency to invest in new turnout gear, boots, personal CO detectors, multi gas meters and RIT Personal Escape Systems.

The firefighters in Pelham Manor are now wearing state-of-the-art turnout
gear, in the Globe/Cairns Reaxtion™ Series Jacket and Pants. Additionally, the firefighters have all been issued top of the line Globe Supreme 14″ Firefighter Boots.

In an effort to better protect the firefighters and citizens of Pelham
Manor, fire department personnel are now carrying personal carbon
monoxide detectors which supplement their four Scott Scout Multi Gas
Meters. According to Captain Mike Greco, these detectors have successfully warned fire personnel of carbon monoxide hazards on four separate occasions since receiving the meters and putting them in service in July. In addition, the firefighters are in the process of being trained by AAA instructors in the deployment and use of their new RIT Personal Escape Systems. The systems, which are mandated by New York State, allow a firefighter to escape from a structure through an opening not originally designed as an exit, such as a window.

After a familiarization period, the Pelham Manor firefighters are pleased with the new equipment. Captain Greco praised the guidance the department received from the AAA Emergency team during the process of determining what equipment to invest in.
