Firefighter Bailout

Yearly Bailout Training Services

Bailout refers to the Emergency Escape Systems available to firefighters. In New York NYS 12 NYCRR Part 800.7 requires Bailout systems be provided to all interior structural firefighters. Although not mandated in New Jersey or Connecticut, Bailout use is widely accepted and adopted by most Fire Departments in both states.

The goal of the Bailout system is to provide a means of emergency egress from the upper floors of a structure should all other means of exiting the structure be cutoff due to deteriorating conditions or other unexpected events.

AAA Emergency carries several manufacturers including Sterling, CMC and RIT Safety Solutions. All Bailout systems offered by AAA Emergency are certified to meet NFPA 1983: Standards on Life Safety Rope and Equipment for Emergency Services, 2017 Edition.

Our New End User course will provide detailed instruction to new users including deployment, operation, maintenance and inspection. The New End User training program consists of a classroom and practical session.

The classroom PowerPoint presentation includes a review of the events and incidents, such as Black Sunday, driving the need for bailout, a review of current factors and conditions impacting firefighters during interior structural operations and an in-depth discussion of the operation, deployment, inspection and maintenance of the systems used by your department.

The practical session will be conducted with our mobile training platform or your department’s training window where available. All practical training is conducted from height under the direct supervision of our instructors. The information and theory provided in the classroom session will be reinforced with practical experience to ensure the new users are comfortable and proficient in proper and safe operation of the Bailout system.

The Train-the-Trainer program is intended to train the officers and seasoned firefighters of your department to conduct ongoing bailout training for your members. Having properly trained and certified in-house instructors will provide long-term cost savings for your department.

The Train-the-Trainer program consists of a classroom and practical session. The classroom session will build on the current knowledge of bailout that your officers and seasoned members have from prior training. Detailed information regarding requirements for NYS 12 NYCRR Part 800.7, NFPA 1983 and NFPA 1500 will be reviewed. Training techniques and method of instruction processes will be explained in preparation for the practical session.

An area of critical importance that will be covered is documentation and recording keeping. All aspects of bailout training must be properly documented and recorded. Samples of appropriate documentation will be provided.

The PowerPoint presentation to be used for New End user training will be reviewed and additional information for speaker notes and other presentation techniques will be provided.

The practical session will be an in-depth process during which the trainer candidates will be providing instruction to other candidates in the role of student. The equipment used during the practical session will mirror the equipment to be used by your department including bailout system and safety belay device. Familiarity and proficiency with the safety belay device is critical to proper and safe training.

Annual training or re-certification is required to ensure your members are proficient in the deployment, operation and maintenance of their bailout systems. NFPA 1500 requires all members be trained in the proper use of all assigned PPE and requires a recurring (annual) cycle of training to prevent loss of proficiency and potential injury.

Our annual re-certification is a practical hands-on session during which our instructors will review the deployment, operation and maintenance of your department’s systems in preparation for the training slides. Our instructors will ensure that your members are demonstrating the proper and safe deployment of their bailout systems and correct issues as needed.
